Servant Year History in Brief

Servant Year began in September, 2001 as a joint ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of PA and the Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Along with four interns, program director Rev. Barry Vaughn laid down the roots for what would become the program as we know it today. In the beginning, Servant Year was closely associated with St. Peter's Episcopal Church of Germantown which provided its rectory as a residence for the interns.

Since 2001, Servant Year moved its residence to the Calvary Episcopal Church in Philadelphia at 318 West Manheim St, Philadelphia, PA. Intern placement has expanded beyond solely the ecumenical organizations with which it began. We now place interns at several services that focus on helping those most in need of assistance.

In 2004 Matt Myers, a graduate of Servant Year, took leadership of the program. Servant Year has since partnered with over 10 Philadelphia social service agencies where it has placed over 40 full time interns.
